Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, a flagbearer hopeful from the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has responded to claims made by former Member of Parliament for Suhum, Frederick Opare-Ansah, regarding demands related to his flagbearership bid.
Agyapong refuted the allegation during an interview on Time FM on Sunday, October 29, 2023. Instead, he alleged that he was offered $800 million to step down from the party’s race for Dr. Bawumia, the current Vice President of Ghana.
Agyapong stated, “The money they offered is $800 million if he doesn’t know. He should ask Mr. Oppong Bio if that is what they are saying, but I said no, I will not step down, Ghana first.”
Opare-Ansah had accused Agyapong of contesting the flagbearership out of spite after Vice President Bawumia turned down his request as a pre-condition for Agyapong’s support.
Agyapong clarified that his decision to contest for the presidency was based solely on public interest and that he remains unwavering in his pursuit.
The NPP will elect a flagbearer on November 4, 2023, in preparation for the next year’s presidential election.
