A group of sixteen individuals between the ages of 12 and 20 have been discovered kidnapped in a single room located in Ankaful Zongo, which is part of the Cape Coast Metropolitan Assembly in Ghana’s Central Region.
According to reports, the victims are thought to be non-Ghanaians due to their inability to speak any local languages. It is believed that they come from countries such as Burkina Faso, Togo, Mali, and Niger, as they speak different languages including French.
The victims have been held captive in the room for approximately one month, and their physical appearance indicates that they have been deprived of food and water during this time.
After receiving information about the situation, the Chief and Opinion Leaders of the Ankaful Community, along with the media, went to investigate. However, the main door was locked with a padlock, and the security guard was absent.
Local residents who discovered the victims reported that they had observed taxis arriving at the house, with young boys being led inside by unknown persons. Later, they did not see them again.
The Chief of Ankaful, Nana Abura Asankoma III, has appealed to the security agencies to launch an investigation and arrest the suspected kidnappers.
The Ankaful Police have been notified of the matter by the Assembly Member of Cape Coast Ankaful Hon. George Anarful. However, according to him, the police have failed to act.
Hon. Anarful has stated that the victims were reportedly recruited to play football for certain teams in the country but have been imprisoned and not cared for.
This is a distressing and alarming situation, as kidnapping and human trafficking are serious offenses that infringe on human rights and must be thoroughly investigated and prosecuted.
