For some days now, there have been reports that Sogne Yacouba’s absence from the Kotoko team is as a result of a spiritual sickness.
Yacouba asked permission from the club for 10-days to go to his country to cure himself. His absence from the team started the rumours as Asante Kotoko has the best team doctors in Ghana. Therefore, if a player of the club has to go to his country to cure himself then his sickness is not physical. Some fans of the club believe someone is using black magic on the player.
Sarfo Duku, the Director of Communications for the club in an interview on Silver FM said Yacouba asked for permission to go home when the team was on a break for 10-days. After the 10-days, he told them he was sick so he will return to Ghana when he gets better. He explained that they sent someone to visit him and the message the person brought is that he is getting better.
He debunked the rumours that the reason why Yacouba has not returned to Ghana is that they owe him.
When asked about the use of black magic in the team, Sarfo Duku said it is normal to hear such things in football and controlling them is not easy. ‘We will explain to the players why they should not use such things in the team as God is with the team.’
He did not state that Yacouba’s sickness is spiritual or not but until he is back in the team the rumours of his sickness being spiritual will not die out as such stories and incidents are common in Ghanaian football clubs.
