The lead suspect in the Ahmed Hussein-Suale’s killing incident, Daniel Koranteng, also known as Nana Amakye, has denied allegations that he sold photographs of the slain investigative journalist to the former Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong, before Suale’s murder in 2019.
The thirty-five-year-old businessman, Koranteng, who has been remanded in custody by the Madina District Court, faces provisional charges of murder.
Prosecutors claim that he played a role in Suale’s killing, referencing call records and his presence near the journalist’s residence at the time of the murder.
“Call records placed the accused at Madina, near Suale’s residence before and at the time of the murder,” the prosecution stated.
According to a report by adomonline.com, the suspect Koranteng rejected claims of providing photographs of the deceased to Kennedy Agyapong, despite admitting he knew Suale, had visited Agyapong, and had taken photos with the journalist.
“He admitted knowing the deceased, visiting Kennedy Agyapong, and taking photographs with the deceased but denied selling the photographs to anyone,” the prosecution revealed.
The prosecution further asserted that Suale had identified Koranteng as the person responsible for supplying the images later broadcast on Net2 TV, where Agyapong called for retribution against the journalist.
According to the prosecution, Koranteng fled to the United Kingdom in 2019 after ignoring multiple police invitations and later returned to Ghana, where he was arrested at Amasaman on March 15, 2025, based on intelligence reports.
The court has remanded him into custody, pending further investigations, with committal proceedings scheduled for April 1, 2025.
The prosecution has noted that investigations are ongoing.
Reports have also emerged that the suspect arrested in connection with the murder of late investigative journalist, Ahmed Suale allegedly leaked his pictures to a Ghanaian politician.
A source at the Criminal Investigation Department of the Ghana Police Service is said to have disclosed that a high-ranking member is attempting to interfere in the police’s investigation.
The said officer was allegedly pushing for the suspect to be granted police inquiry bail rather than being immediately processed to court.
This, has, however, created unrest within the police administration as the investigators are determined to resist the influence of the said officer.
It emerged on Monday, March 17, 2025, that the Ghana Police Service arrested Daniel Owusu Koranteng, also known as Akwasi Amakye, in connection with the killing of investigative journalist Ahmed Hussein-Suale in 2019.
