Ghanaian international footballer, Kevin-Prince Boateng, has officially confirmed his retirement from the sport. Boateng, who last played for Hertha Berlin, has decided to retire from football at the age of 35.
The former Black Stars player made the announcement on his Instagram account, sharing a video along with a heartfelt message: “I LOVE YOU. But that’s a WRAP for me ? Thank you FOOTBALL for everything ‼️.”
Despite receiving offers from several clubs in Arab countries and America, Boateng, a former AC Milan standout, has chosen to step away from playing the game in order to focus on his coaching career, marking a significant transition in his involvement with the sport.
Boateng made a lasting impact on the international stage by representing Ghana in two FIFA World Cup tournaments. One of his most memorable moments was during the 2010 World Cup held in South Africa when he played a pivotal role in Ghana’s journey to the quarter-finals. His goal in the round of 16 against the United States of America helped secure a 2-1 victory for Ghana, but unfortunately, their World Cup dream ended in disappointment as they were eliminated by Uruguay in a penalty shootout.
Boateng also featured in the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil, representing Ghana under Coach Kwesi Appiah. However, Ghana faced a tough group that included the United States, Germany, and Portugal, and they finished last in the group standings.
Throughout his illustrious career, Boateng has played for several renowned clubs, including Fiorentina, Borussia Dortmund, Genoa, Portsmouth, Besiktas, Schalke 04, and FC Barcelona, showcasing his versatility and skill at various stages of his career.
As Boateng bids farewell to his playing days, he embarks on a new chapter in his football journey, leveraging his knowledge and expertise as he joins the coaching staff of Hertha Berlin BSC, contributing to the development of the next generation of players.
