Captain Ismail Ganiu’s missed penalty proved costly as Asante Kotoko were held to a stalemate by Real Tamale United in the Ghana Premier League on Wednesday evening.
RTU fought back to snatch a point and deny Kotoko victory that would have taken them to second on the table.
The draw means Kotoko remain in third position, with three points separating them and leaders King Faisal, but the Porcupine Warriors have an outstanding game against Hearts of Oak.
Ganiu precise penalty left goalkeeper rooted but it hit the post. It was the last action of the first half.
But the miss would be forgotten early in the second half as Kotoko took the lead courtesy Frank Mbella.
The lead would last until the 71st minute when inform attacker David Abagna scored with a rebound from close range.
Kotoko mounted pressure on RTU but the latter’s stood tall as the game ended with both sides earning a point a piece.
It’s a good result for RTU who still find themseleve in the top half.
