Kotoko has officially announced that Albert Amoah has completed a permanent transfer to Al Ahly Benghazi in Libya. The announcement followed their heavy 5-1 defeat to Morocco’s Wydad Athletic Club. The loss sealed a 6-1 aggregate exit from the CAF Confederation Cup final qualifying round.
In a statement the club said: “We can confirm the permanent transfer of forward Albert Amoah to Libyan side Al Ahly Benghazi. Asante Kotoko is grateful to Albert for his services to the club and his achievements with us. We wish him the very best for the future.”
After the announcement, most of the fans who commented on the post were furious over the club’s decision to sell Amoah.
Amoah leaves Kotoko as their current top scorer with four goals in just five matches this season, and also scored 12 goals in 28 appearances the previous season. With his exit, the burden of leading the attack now shifts to Guinean striker Donzo Morifing, who is yet to open his scoring account after playing seven games in all competitions.
Fans of Kotoko took to social media to express their frustration at the timing and manner of the departure. Many supporters questioned why the club let their key forward go right after a crushing continental defeat.
