Kumasi Asante Kotoko has gotten a walkover to the next stage of the CAF Champions League preliminary stage after their opponent, FC Nouadhibou failed to raise a team for the second leg of the game.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, CAF increased the number of registered players for each club from 30 to 40 and added that a game can go on if a team has 11 players on the pitch and 3 players on the bench.
However, Nouadhibou came to Ghana with only 15 players. Therefore, after two of their players tested positive for coronavirus, it would mean that the club would only have two players on the bench.
The referee and the match commissioner gave Nouadhibou up to 4 pm to raise a team for the game but they failed to do so.
The referee and the Kotoko team went on to the pitch but FC Nouadhibou failed to show up.
Kotoko will now play Sudan’s Al Hilal in the next stage of the competition.
