Kumasi Asante Kotoko has been given two weeks to pay their formal coach, C.K Akonnor ₵ 144, 000 by the Player Status Committee.
Kotoko was sued by C.K Akonnor after he was sacked in July this year.
Akonnor, according to the management of Kotoko was not sacked but rather ‘elevated’ to the position of Technical Director.
C.K Akonnor in an interview on Fox FM in Kumasi said he only wanted the club to give him 4 or 5 months’ salary after he was sacked, however, he was informed that the Executive Chairman of the club, Dr Kwame Kyei rejected the offer.
C.K did not say confirm the exact amount he is to be paid and denied the reports that he is to be paid ₵60, 000. However, he said there is a “big difference” between what he wanted and what he would be paid.
The four-month salary would have been ₵24, 000 but because his offer was rejected the club and he had 2 years on his contract Kotoko has to pay Akonnor the huge amount.
Akonnor, in the interview, said he was not happy with the outcome of the verdict as he loves the club and described the incident as “unfortunate.”
C.K said he was at a point in time chancing the management of Kotoko to let them settle the issue out of court due to this love for the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu and Asanteman.
“After we sat down and talked, I told them what I wanted and they also told me what they can do but when they went to meet Dr Kyei they told him only what they told me.”
“I did this job with all that was in me” and “it saddens my heart” that things turned out this way.
He explained that he was really sad “they unveiled their new coach” [Kjetil Zachariassen] less than a week after he was sacked.
