Kumasi Asante Kotoko has rejected Etoile Sportive du Sahel’s request to have their match played in Tunis, the capital of Tunisia.
The Stade Olympique de Sousse in Sousse is where Etoile play their home but due to some challenges, the second leg of the CAF Champions League game between the two clubs has been scheduled to take place at Monastir which is located at the south of Sousse.
The Post understands that Etoile contacted Kotoko on Monday and informed them that they want their game to be played in Tunis instead of the Stade Mustapha Ben Jannat in Monastir.
Kotoko asked them to write to them to inform them of their decision in other for it to be an official request.
Kotoko’s Deputy Accra Representative, Nana Kwame Dankwa told Kessben FM that he got the letter when Kotoko was on their way to Tunisia on Wednesday.
However, after the management of Kotoko discussed their request when they got to Tunisia, they concluded that they do not want the venue to change.
According to him, in the letter that was sent to them, Etoile informed them that due to the nature of the pitch at Monastir and accommodation challenges, they wanted the match venue to be changed to Tunis.
Had Kotoko agreed to the change of venue, Etoile would have written to CAF to inform them of the agreement between the two clubs.
The Post understands that the reason Etoile wanted the game to be changed is that there is a rivalry between Etoile and people of Monastir and for that reason, Etoile wanted the venue of the game to change as the people of Monastir will be at the stadium to support Kotoko.
According to a report from Tunisia, Etoile informed CAF of their decision for the venue to be changed, however, CAF also did not approve of the decision.
The game, as it stands now will kick off at 1700 Tunisia time and 1600 GMT.
