Asante Kotoko has beaten Bechem United 2-0 at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
This is Kotoko’s first game at their home ground in over a year as the stadium was under renovation.
Bechem United played the game with a defensive tactic and was expecting to use a counterattack to beat the home side.
Kotoko got most of the chances in the first half but Bechem’s goalkeeper was not ready to let the ball enter his net.
Bechem could have scored the first goal through Avornyo but he chose to dribble Razak Abalora instead of shooting the ball at once. Avornyo got the ball after Mubarik’s back poor back pass could not get to Abalora. Abalora quickly dived onto the ball before Avornyo could dribble him.
In the second half, Bechem continued with their defensive play.
Kotoko captain Ganiu should have been shown the red card after a bad tackle on Avornyo but the referee showed him a yellow card instead. Mubarik was infront of Avornyo but turned around to look at Avornyo. The striker run past him and Ganiu brought him down.
Kotoko had to wait till the 85th minute when Oppong after was brought down in the penalty box and Kotoko was awarded a penalty.
Ganiu stepped up and sent the goalkeeper the wrong way.
After conceding the goal, Bechem opened up the game and it increased Kotoko’s chances of scoring a second goal.
Ibrahim Imoro who was brought on for Patrick Asmah cross in the 94th minute found Samuel Boateng alone in Bechem’s 18-yard box and his header made it two for the home side.
