Ghana Premier League leaders Asante Kotoko have seen their lead cut to eight points after a goalless draw with Bechem United on Tuesday.
The Porcupine Warriors needed a resolute defence and a brilliant performance from goalkeeper Danland Ibrahim to avoid defeat at the Nana Gyeabour Park.
The home side were slightly the better side and would be disappointed not to take three points as they slip to fourth.
Kotoko welcomed Brazilian Fabio Gama to action after fully recovering from an injury that kept him out for two months.
Gama, who missed 10 games including the 2022 President’s Cup defeat against Hearts of Oak last Friday in Accra, came on 20 minutes from time and troubled Bechem defence a couple of times.
Two minutes into the game, Kotoko threatened with a free-kick but started dominating the game.
Danland pulled off a spectacular save in the 17th minute to deny Bechem the opener after Emmanuel Avornyo’s superb volley from the edge of the box.
Minutes later, defender Samuel Osei Kuffour deliberately stamped Kotoko striker Mbella Etouga’s arm. Luckily for the Bechem man, it happened at the blind side of the referee so he escaped a red card. However, could face a retrospective ban.
