Asante Kotoko has announced the indefinite suspension of their winger Joseph Amoako due to his gross misconduct on social media. The club has stated that the suspension will remain in place until a final determination is made through the club’s disciplinary procedures.
In a statement released by the club, they expressed their disappointment with Amoako’s actions on social media, which they deemed unacceptable. The 20-year-old had returned to Ghana in March after being released from prison in Sweden. He had been wrongfully convicted of rape and served two years before being found not guilty following months of investigation.
Amoako had been on loan to Swedish club Helsingborgs IF, where he struggled to secure playing time, making only ten appearances and playing for 295 minutes in all competitions. Upon his return to Ghana, he had been training with his parent club to keep himself in shape for the upcoming season.
Despite the challenges he has faced, the enterprising winger will now have to wait until his disciplinary issues are resolved before he can continue playing for Asante Kotoko. The club has made it clear that they will not tolerate any form of misconduct from their players, and they will take appropriate action against anyone who violates their code of conduct.
