Kumasi Asante Kotoko has chosen a walkover over rescheduling their game with the yet to be named opponent in the upcoming CAF Confederation match.
A two-member delegation from Cameroon was in Kumasi today to meet with the management of Kotoko to convince them to reschedule their Confederation match game to December 2018.
The Cameroonian delegation which was made up of their FA General Secretary and a government of Cameroon appointee proposed that the game between Kotoko and the yet to be named Cameroon side should be played on the 6 and 10 of December so that CAF will not disqualify them.
Also, they proposed that even if Kotoko wants both legs to be played in Ghana, they will be fine with the decision.
The Post has gathered that the Cameroonian delegation explained to Kotoko that they play their FA Cup Final to end their football season and the sitting President is the one who is supposed to present the trophy to the eventual winner. But because of the recent incident that occurred in their just ended elections, the game has delayed.
While the CAF Confederation match is expected to be played on the 28th of this month, the Cameroonian FA Cup which will determine Kotoko’s opponent will be played on December 2 2018.
The Post has also gathered that CAF is putting pressure on the Cameroonian FA to present their team for the game.
Though Kotoko does not have the final say, the delegation came to discuss the issue with Kotoko so that they can inform CAF about the decision of the two clubs.
The management of Kotoko, however, has rejected the proposal because it will not ‘help the team.’
The Cameroonian FA is yet to announce whether they will ask CAF to reschedule the match or they will forget about the game and accept the disqualification for the Confederation Cup.
Should CAF decide to reschedule the game, Kotoko will have no choice than to play the game.
