The Ghana Football Association has suspened referee Gabriel Opoku Arhin for six matchdays for not showing Asante Kotoko defender Ismail Abdul Ganiu a red in the game between Asante Kotoko and Bechem United on matchday two.
Arhin officiated the game and in the 59th minute, Ganiu was shown the yellow card for a foul on Bechem United’s Emmanuel Avornyo.
Bechem United filed a complaint against the match referee for for showing Ganiu the yellow card instead of the red card.
Arhin, according to the GFA’s report, admitted to making a mistake as he did not see the offence clearly but after consulting with the fourth official, Andrew Awurisa, he gave Ganiu the minimal punishment.
Awurisa has also been handed a four matchday suspension.
Ganiu after getting the yellow card scored Kotoko’s first goal in the game from the penalty spot as Kotoko won 2-0.
