Ghana’s prestigious football event, the Ghana Football Awards, witnessed the crowning of Ajax midfielder Mohammed Kudus as the Footballer of the Year in its fifth edition. The gala took place on June 25, 2023, at the Accra International Conference Centre.
Kudus, surpassing his Black Stars teammates Joseph Paintsil and Salis Abdul Samed, claimed the highly coveted award. This recognition follows in the footsteps of last year’s winner, Alexander Djiku, further solidifying Kudus’ outstanding contributions to the sport.
In the Women’s Footballer of the Year category, Blessing Shine Agbomdzi, who currently plays for ASFAR in Morocco, emerged triumphant for her remarkable performances on the field.
The Odartey Lamptey Future Star award saw FC Nordsjaelland forward Ernest Nuamah securing victory, surpassing strong contenders such as Black Princesses’ captain Stella Nyamaekye and Princess Owusua.
Victor Osimhen, the Nigerian striker from Napoli, was honored as the Best African International Player of the Year, recognizing his exceptional displays throughout the year.
The awards ceremony predominantly highlighted the achievements of Medeama Sporting Club, the reigning champions of the Ghana Premier League. Head coach Evans Adotey and CEO Moses Armah led the way, with the team also securing the title of Male Team of the Year.
