The Kumasi Sanitation Awareness Association in the Ashanti Region has announced a 25 percent increase in the charges for public toilets and urinal facilities in the Kumasi metropolis.
Previously, facilities using toilet rolls charged GH¢1.50, but this has now been raised to GH¢2.00.
Additionally, the cost for toilet paper facilities has increased from GH¢1.30 to GH¢1.50.
Owusu Takyi, the Chairman of the Association, explained to Class 91.3 FM’s Elisha Adarkwah that the rise in charges is due to the current hike in the prices of goods and services.
He highlighted that the cost of dislodging the facilities has increased from GH¢800 to GH¢1,200.
Furthermore, the costs of maintenance, electricity, and water bills have also gone up.
Takyi emphasized that the fee increase was necessary to ensure the Association could continue to operate and provide better services to its customers.
He noted that while there were initial complaints from users about the price hike, they have since come to understand the need for the new charges to sustain operations and maintain service quality.
