Safiu Fatawu’s performance in the ongoing Normalisation Committee’s Special Cup has made some people believe that he will definitely make it to the upcoming African Cup of Nation which will be held in Egypt.
The former Portland Timbers striker joined the Porcupine Warriors from Techiman Eleven Wonders late last year and he is currently leading the goal king chart in the competition.
There have been reports in local media that the coach of the Black Stars, Kwesi Appiah is monitoring the striker.
However, the head coach of Kumasi Asante Kotoko, C.K Akonnor has asked the fans of the player to allow Appiah to decide if he is good enough to make it to the tournament.
Akonnor praised Safiu for his performance in the competition so far and added that there is a pool of players that
Appiah has to make the list from so “we should leave it to him to decide.”
“The truth of the matter is he has done well no doubt but whether he will be called into the national team is not in our hands, it is in the hands of the manager,” Akonnor told Oyerepa FM
“So I think he’ doing a good job there are a lot of players and we should leave it to him to decide.”
