John Dramani Mahama, the former President of Ghana, has urged Ghanaians not to fall for the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) promises to fix the country’s economy. Mahama believes that the NPP has shown its capability, and it is unlikely that they can bring about significant changes in the remaining one and a half years of their term.
Addressing National Democratic Congress (NDC) delegates at Binduri in the Upper East Region, Mahama, who is seeking to become the NDC flag bearer, stated that the NPP has nothing to offer Ghanaians. He has promised to review and improve President Akufo-Addo’s Free SHS policy and the National Health Insurance Scheme if he is re-elected president in the 2024 elections.
Mahama pointed out that the Free SHS policy is not working correctly and that parents are not benefiting from it as intended. He also noted that the amount of money spent on children’s education is now much higher than when school fees were paid. He pledged to improve the policy to ensure that all children go to school together and return home together when schools reopen and close.
Mahama also promised to fight corruption vigorously, irrespective of the political affiliation of those involved. He stated that NDC would launch a strong fight against corruption, as it is one of the significant drains on the country’s resources. He assured Ghanaians that anyone who takes the people’s money would face justice, regardless of their political affiliation.
