In the Suhum Municipality of the Eastern Region, a 65-year-old man named Otu Acquah, also known as Adi Wako, is alleged to have shot a 24-year-old man over an avocado pear fruit. The victim, identified as Ben, died as a result of the gunshot wound.
According to reports, Ben went to the suspect’s house with a friend at 11:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 22, 2023, to pluck some pears. Allegedly, the suspect pulled out a revolver and shot the victim through the pear tree he had already climbed, killing him instantly. The suspect reportedly accused them of theft, which led to him shooting at them.
Francis, the other victim, managed to escape and reported that they had just finished an event and were on their way home when they stopped at the suspect’s house to pick some pears.
The Chief of the area, Nana Kwesi Larbi, has described the incident as “tragic.” He revealed that the suspect had threatened to kill him over a land dispute in the past and that he had a history of violent altercations. The chief stated that whenever the suspect gets into a quarrel, he pulls out a gun and threatens to kill people.
