In a shocking turn of events, a jilted lover is believed to have killed his girlfriend in Trom, a suburb of Koforidua in the Eastern Region. The gruesome incident took place on Saturday, June 17, 2023, at Junction 5 in the Trom community.
According to reports, it is alleged that the victim had decided to end the relationship with the suspect and subsequently relocated to her current residence. On the day of the incident, while a naming ceremony was taking place, the suspect visited the girlfriend.
Witnesses, who were co-tenants in the house, stated that the victim went outside to meet the suspect and brought him into her room. Tragically, amidst the noise of the naming ceremony, it appears that the suspect killed the victim, preventing anyone from hearing her cries for help.
It is believed that the suspect engaged in a struggle with the victim, forcibly placing a piece of cloth in her mouth before slitting her throat. After committing this heinous act, he discarded the knife used in a bush behind the house and quietly left the scene.
Later in the evening, the suspect, who is in his 30s, voluntarily turned himself in to the police. He was wearing a red shirt with the words “Rest In Peace” written on the back. Following the necessary investigations and crime scene examination, the police retrieved the victim’s body and transferred it to the morgue.
On Sunday afternoon around noon, the police brought the suspect back to the crime scene in an attempt to locate the knife used in the crime, but their efforts proved unsuccessful. Meanwhile, a group of angry youth from the community gathered at the scene, expressing their outrage and threatening to attack the suspect.
As tensions escalated, the police swiftly removed the suspect from the scene and placed him in a taxi to ensure his safety. The investigation into this tragic incident is ongoing, and authorities are working diligently to bring justice to the victim and her family.
