A caretaker, Samuel Mensah Addey, stands accused of selling his employer’s land in Lashibi for GHC200,000. Additionally, he is alleged to have sold sand, stones, and blocks from the property valued at GHC30,000. Addey, who is also a trader, faced two counts of stealing and has pleaded not guilty.
The Accra Circuit Court, presided over by Mr. Oheneba Kuffour, granted Addey bail in the sum of GHC250,000 with three sureties required to present a movable titled deed.
According to Chief Inspector John Gohoho, the prosecutor, the complainant, Mr. William Adjei Kodua, a businessman residing in Teshie Nungua Estate, purchased the plot of land in Lashibi from the owner of Red Bulb Guest House for GHC200,000. An additional GHC30,000 was paid for the transportation of sand, stones, and blocks to the land. They were provided with the necessary documents.
To prevent encroachment, the complainant entrusted the land to Addey. However, in 2022, Addey purportedly divided the land and sold it to interested buyers. When the buyers began developing the land in 2023, Addey approached the complainant, expressing his intention to sell the land and building materials for GHC230,000. When the complainant demanded his money, Addey avoided the issue, prompting the complainant to report the matter to the police.
During questioning, Addey reportedly confessed to the offense.
