Rootman, who initially sat at the front seat moved to the trunk of the car when a passenger got into the car. Rootman, according to the report did that so as not to pay for transportation.
When Rootman got home, he realized his phone was not on him so he went to the taxi driver station to ask the driver who had given him the lift. Rootman accused the driver of stealing the phone which the driver denied.
The driver was arrested and bailed the following day after Rootman and his friends reported him.
After the driver was bailed, his wife who was furious called on the name of a river god called Yaayaa in the area and told the god to kill Rootman when he crosses the river only if its true her husband stole the phone.
Also, she told the god to also kill her husband if he stole the phone and is denying it.
Days later, Rootman fell sick and his brother-in-law called Old Soldier who was among those who reported the stolen phone to the police came and took him to the hospital.
The two men crossed the river when they were going to the hospital and when they were going home.

The priest went on to tell the families of Rootman and Old Soldier that the god was also not happy with those who took the bodies of the two men to the mortuary and also those who wanted to settle the issue between Rootman and the driver. Therefore, he will kill all those involved who were 12 in number.
