In a disturbing case of child defilement, a labourer named Valentine Nyame has been sentenced to 14 years of imprisonment with hard labor by the Tarkwa Circuit Court. Nyame was found guilty of defiling a 14-year-old girl, who is now seven weeks pregnant. The victim is a Junior High School student residing in Prestea, in the Western Region.
Despite initially pleading not guilty to the charge of defilement, Nyame was convicted by the court after he was found guilty of the offense. The case was presented by Superintendent of Police Juliana Essel-Dadzie.
According to the prosecutor, the complainant is a trader and the mother of the victim. She resides in the same neighborhood as Nyame in Prestea. On August 4, 2023, at approximately 21:00 hours, Nyame allegedly lured the victim into his room and engaged in sexual intercourse with her.
Upon learning of the incident, the complainant reported the case to the Prestea police station. Nyame was subsequently arrested for questioning as part of the ongoing investigation. During the course of the investigation, Nyame admitted to the offense in his caution statement. He confessed to having sexual relations with the victim for two months leading up to his arrest.
The police provided a medical report form to the complainant, who took the victim to the hospital. Upon the victim’s return, the medical report confirmed that she was seven weeks pregnant. Nyame was subsequently charged with the offense and brought before the court.
