Emmanuel Mbachu, a 26-year-old factory worker, has been sentenced to 180 days in prison by an Accra Circuit Court for indecently assaulting a 10-year-old girl. Mbachu was found guilty of fondling the victim’s breast and asking her to suck his manhood. However, he was acquitted and discharged on the charge of defilement.
According to the prosecution, led by Superintendent of Police Agnes Boafo, the complainant was a businessman living in Palladium, Accra. The victim’s father and Mbachu also resided in the same house in Korle-Gonno.
On January 29, 2023, the complainant went to Korle-Gonno to visit the victim’s father, but he did not find them in the house. As he waited, the victim’s father called and asked him to check on the victim.
The complainant asked some children playing in the house if they had seen the victim, and they told him that she had entered Mbachu’s room. He knocked on Mbachu’s door, but there was no response. After knocking for the second time, Mbachu opened the door.
The complainant asked Mbachu if he had seen the victim, and he quickly went inside and brought her. When questioned, the victim revealed that Mbachu had fondled her breast and asked her to suck his manhood.
The complainant reported the matter to the police at Korle-Bu, but it was referred to the Domestic Violence and Victim’s Support Unit at Mamprobi. The court’s ruling serves as a reminder of the need to protect vulnerable children from sexual abuse and exploitation.
