In a recent ruling, a 25-year-old unemployed young man named Ebenezer Bortey faced justice for his involvement in a series of crimes. Bortey, who pleaded guilty to all charges, was sentenced by an Accra Circuit Court presided over by Mr Isaac Oheneba Kuffour.
The court found Bortey guilty of unlawful entry and causing unlawful damage after he unlawfully broke into the house of a bar attendant in the Nungua Kpokeke area. During the break-in, he damaged a padlock and door lock valued at GH₵200.00.
However, Bortey’s criminal activities did not end there. On July 24, 2023, he committed another offense, stealing cooking items from the same house. The stolen items included a blender valued at GH₵400.00, a microwave valued at GH₵500.00, a rice cooker valued at GH₵280.00, a gas cylinder valued at GH₵150.00, and a set of bowls valued at GH₵120.00, summing up to a total value of GH₵1,450.00.
Upon realizing the theft, the bar attendant reported the incident to the police, and with crucial information, the authorities managed to apprehend Bortey in connection with another theft case in the area. To her relief, the complainant identified her stolen items among the possessions found in Bortey’s possession during his arrest.
As a result of his crimes, the court handed down a sentence to Bortey, totaling 48 months of imprisonment. He received 12 months each for unlawful entry and causing unlawful damage, while a significant 36-month term was imposed on him for the charge of stealing. The court ruled that the sentences would run concurrently.
