During a phone-in session on Joy News, a man named Edward shared his story of how he lived under the impression of fathering a daughter for 15 years with a woman he was married to. Edward said that he returned from the US some years ago and a few months after his return, his wife announced that she was pregnant. He assumed that the child was his since she was his legally married wife. However, he found out 15 years later that the child was not his biological child.
Edward discovered the truth after his wife hatched a plot and relocated with the 15-year-old girl to be with her ex-boyfriend, who was the actual father. The ex-boyfriend had won a visa lottery to the US and had relocated from Ghana to the US. He was in constant communication with Edward’s wife without Edward’s knowledge, and he knew very well that the child was his. When the ex-boyfriend received his documentation in the US, he decided to file for his daughter, who Edward thought was his. Edward’s wife found out about this and came up with a strategy to tell him that it would be better for their daughter to go to the US, where she would have a better life. Edward was financially down at the time, so he agreed to drive them to the airport.
Edward had no idea that his wife and daughter were leaving for good. A month later, his wife called him in Ghana to tell him that their daughter had gone to settle with the man who had impregnated her and that the child was not his but the man in the US.
The revelation has had a devastating impact on Edward’s life. He says he is yet to recover some three years after he was confronted with the truth. The incident has caused him to lose his confidence and self-worth, and his wife has since cut all forms of communication with him after travelling to the US.
