A 33-year-old man has been handed a significant sentence by the Accra High Court for a horrifying crime involving the tragic loss of his 2-year-old son as part of a shocking ritual aimed at achieving wealth.
The man, identified as Prince Acquaye, also known as Juu, was found guilty by a unanimous decision of a seven-member jury on a murder charge. The ghastly incident occurred in Akuma Village, Accra, where Acquaye is reported to have thrown his son into the sea as a part of a gruesome ritual with the hope of attaining riches.
The heartbreaking details were revealed in a report from the Ghana News Agency. It was Abigail Nyumor, a food vendor and the girlfriend of the convicted man, who reported this heinous crime to the authorities. The report further disclosed that Prince and Abigail were living together with their young son as a family.
Tragically, in February 2021, the convict allegedly informed the complainant, Abigail, not to worry if something unfortunate happened to their son, as it was purportedly a means for them to gain wealth. This ominous statement foreshadowed a terrible fate for their innocent child.
On April 20, 2021, their son, who has since passed away, asked his father for some money to buy groundnuts, to which the father obliged by giving him GHC5. However, the prosecution revealed that after giving his son the money, Prince Acquaye cunningly led the child to the seaside and threw him into the sea while the child’s mother was taking a nap.
The report recounted that the complainant only discovered the shocking truth when she was awoken by neighbors who informed her about the terrible act committed by her boyfriend. Although the victim was promptly rescued and taken to the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, tragically, he passed away the following day.
Following the incident, the convict was apprehended after the police were alerted to the gruesome act. Preliminary investigations, as reported by the prosecution, suggest that the convict was involved in occult practices and believed that the ritualistic sacrifice of his son was necessary as part of these dark rituals.
