On Saturday, July 21, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the revered Owner and life patron of Asante Kotoko, made a historic proclamation. In light of the expiration of the 12-member board of directors led by Dr. Kwame Kyei and the management under Nana Yaw Amponsah, their roles were dissolved. In anticipation of the 2023/24 Ghana Premier League campaign, Otumfuo took action and appointed a proficient four-member Interim Management Committee (IMC) to oversee the club’s affairs.
The newly formed IMC comprises exceptional individuals, each bringing a unique set of skills to the table. Nana Apinkra Akwasi Awua, the esteemed Kontomponiaferehene and a highly regarded chartered accountant, assumes a pivotal role within the committee. His financial acumen and deep understanding of the club’s inner workings make him an invaluable asset.
Another distinguished member of the IMC is none other than James Kwasi Appiah, a revered figure in Ghanaian football. Having previously served as the coach of the Black Stars, Appiah’s wealth of experience and tactical prowess are expected to shape Kotoko’s future endeavors positively.
Taking charge of the team’s coaching responsibilities is the accomplished Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum. With an impressive track record in football management, Dr. Ogum is the perfect candidate to lead Kotoko’s players and guide them to excellence on the field.
Completing the lineup is Emmanuel Newton Dasoberi, a proficient administrative manager who is set to handle the club’s day-to-day operations. His organizational skills and attention to detail will ensure a seamless functioning of Asante Kotoko’s administrative tasks.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu II’s statement regarding the IMC’s formation was as follows:
“His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene, has appointed an Interim Management Committee (IMC) for Asante Kotoko S.C pending the restructuring of the administration of the club. The members are Nana Apinkra Akwasi Awua (Kontomponiaferehene and a chartered accountant), Akwasi Appiah, former National Coach, Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum, Head Coach, and Emmanuel Newton Dasoberi (Administrative Manager). The IMC is to ensure the club fulfills all statutory obligations of the Premier League and prepare a formidable team for the next season.”
