Medeama Football Club has made history by claiming the championship title of the 2022/23 Ghana Premier League season in a thrilling final-day match against Tamale City. The yellow and mauve-clad team secured a resounding 3-0 victory, sealing their first-ever Ghana Premier League title.
Entering the match as league leaders with 57 points, Medeama SC faced strong competition from Bechem United FC, who held the second position with 54 points. With only three points needed to secure the championship, the Tarkwa-based side delivered an exceptional performance on the final day of the season.
Medeama took an early lead within the first 10 minutes when Kwadwo Amaoko unleashed a stunning strike to find the back of the net. The team’s dominance continued in the second half as Jonathan Sowah netted two goals, completing his brace and solidifying Medeama’s claim to the title.
This season’s journey to the top of the league was not without challenges for Medeama. With three games remaining, they faced a formidable test as they dropped points, allowing Bechem United to close the gap to just three points in second place. However, Aduana Stars’ 1-0 victory over Bechem United confirmed Medeama’s status as champions of the Ghana Premier League 2022/23 season, even before the final whistle was blown.
The achievement marks a significant milestone in the history of Medeama Football Club, as they overtook Aduana Stars to claim the top spot with their exceptional performances throughout the season. The entire team, coaching staff, and fans are now celebrating this remarkable triumph and the first-ever league title for the club.
