Argentina and Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi has reminded Ernesto Valverde not to neglect his defence this summer, according to a report.
Messi has reportedly told the Barcelona coach to sign David Alaba.
Valverde is believed to be plannig on adding Antoine Griezmann to his ranks for €100million ahead of next season, but according to Diario Gol Messi wants Alaba at the Camp Nou.
The 25-year-old Austria defender is currently playing for Bayern Munich and has made 31 appearances for the Bundesliga champions this season.
He is under contract until 2021 after signing a new five-year deal two season’s ago and he has no release clause in his Bayern deal.
Both Barcelona and Real Madrid have been linked with the 60-cap player and in 2016 Real apparently saw an €80million bid for him turned down.
With that in mind Alaba could cost prospective buyers over €100million in the summer, but with the player’s versatility, Messi is sure he would be an excellent addition.
Alaba can play at left-back, centre-back and in a holding midfield role – a position he is said to prefer and if Barca can promise him that he may well be tempted by a move to La Liga.
