The Minority in Parliament has indicated they will go to court to seek clarification over the Ghana card registration.
The National Identification Authority has made it clear they will only allow Ghanaians to use either passport or birth certificate to register for the Ghana card.
The minority, on the other hand, believes this is not right as not every Ghanaian has a passport or a birth certificate.
The minority leader, Haruna Iddrisu in an interview stated that they will boycott the registration until certain legal issues are explained to the satisfaction of all Ghanaians.
He further went on to say that, only 2 million Ghanaians have a passport and only 7 million have a birth certificate. Therefore, if we do not allow people to use the voter’s ID card to register for the Ghana Card, then we are giving only a few people the privilege to register for the card.
Hon. Haruna Iddrisu and the Minority are arguing that the voter ID card is a legitimate document in the country which should be acceptable to make the exercise all inclusive.
If the NIA does not accept the voter ID card then millions of Ghanaians will have their right taken from them.
