In a deeply saddening turn of events, a 22-year-old Mobile Money (MoMo) vendor has taken his own life in Assin Kruwa, a town located in the Assin South district of the Central Region. The young man, identified as Abdul Rahman Acquah, left his home on June 8, 2023, at approximately 3 PM and subsequently went missing.
Concerned community members launched a thorough search to locate him, but unfortunately, their efforts proved fruitless. The search party included personnel from the Wildlife Division stationed at the Kakum National Park, the deceased’s family, and several community members. On June 9, 2023, they expanded their search to the nearby forest and made a heartbreaking discovery. Abdul Rahman Acquah was found hanging from a tree, with a copper wiring cable as the means of his demise.
The authorities at Nyankumasi Ahenkuro Police Station were promptly notified and quickly dispatched to the scene. After conducting preliminary examinations on the body, no signs of violence were found. As a result, the police proceeded to transport the deceased to the Abura Dunkwa District Hospital Morgue for preservation and further postmortem analysis.
While investigations are currently underway to ascertain the circumstances that led to this tragic incident, unconfirmed reports suggest that the young man may have taken his own life out of frustration. According to a witness who spoke to Kasapa News, the deceased had previously expressed thoughts of suicide due to the disappearance of an amount of Gh¢3,500.00, which belonged to the owner of the mobile money shop where Abdul Rahman worked. The business owner had been relentlessly pressuring him to repay the missing funds, even resorting to threats of arrest.
In a distressing development, the owner of the mobile money shop has been informed of the situation. He insists that the family settle the outstanding debt before allowing them to proceed with the burial arrangements for Abdul Rahman Acquah.
