The president Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has said the opposition party National Democratic Congress (NDC) wants to collapse the Free Senior High School policy.
Speaking at an event on his first day of his tour of the Greater Accra Region, the president said ‘we have to develop the human capital of our country’ through education and that is why he has made ‘it his priority to open access to education’ through the Free Senior High School policy to promote socio-economic development.
The policy which has been Nana Addo’s major priority since 2008 came into reality in September 2017 when he won the 2016 elections.
The opposition NDC led by former president John Dramani Mahama has criticized the policy saying it is not helping the students. Mahama has also said that he will review the policy if he becomes the president of Ghana again.

Though the president has said the policy is not easy to fund, he has maintained that the policy will not collapse as the NDC is saying.
Nana Addo at the event said ‘they [NDC] don’t understand what socio and economic development is about.’
‘They want to come back to power and collapse it,’ he added.
Nana Addo then said that nearly 300, 000 people have benefited from the program which has been implemented for only 2 years and he does not understand why his opponents are calling for a review of the policy.
‘What does it mean [a review of the free Senior High School policy],’ he asked.
‘We are not going to allow’ this to happen, he said.
