The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has officially declared its decision not to participate in the upcoming April 30 by-election in the Ejisu constituency.
Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, the General Secretary of the party, highlighted during a media interaction that the NDC is focusing on the main parliamentary elections scheduled for December 7. He emphasized the need for sufficient time and attention to lay the groundwork for the December 7 elections.
Kwetey reiterated the party’s commitment to withdraw from the by-election, emphasizing their dedication to preparing for the December 7 general elections.
He stated, “NDC will officially not be taking part in the Ejisu by-election. We have already set into motion processes leading to December 7, just a few months away.”
Kwetey further explained that the party wants to ensure they have adequate time to implement their strategies fully, aiming to deploy their resources effectively for the December 7 elections.
Meanwhile, the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) delegates in the Ejisu constituency elected Kwabena Boateng as their candidate for the by-election on Saturday, April 13.
The Ejisu by-election was necessitated by the passing of the incumbent MP for the area and deputy finance minister, John Ampotuah Kumah, on March 7, 2024.
Additionally, Mustapha Gbande, the Deputy General Secretary of the NDC, expressed during a separate interview on TV3’s Ghana Tonight that the NDC will continue to offer support and condolences to the family of the deceased MP, John Kumah.
