After eliminating Nigeria from the World Cup qualifiers and becoming the first African country to qualify for the tournament in Qatar, the Black Stars players had to run to the dressing room as objects were thrown at them.
The Ghanaian players and officials rushed to the tunnel to avoid any attack from the irate Nigerian fans who invaded the pitch minutes after the final whistle.
Bottles were thrown at them as they rushed to the tunnel.
This is not the first time the Ghana national team has been attacked in Nigeria.
On 9 February 1973, stones and bottles were thrown at the Black Stars’ players after beating Nigeria 3-0 in Lagos in the World Cup qualifying game. The fans also invaded the pitch just like last night.
And the worst of it all was when the Black Stars bus was set on fire.
The Stars left the pitch safely as the Nigerian fans destroy their own stadium after the elimination.
The Ghanaian fans who were also at the stadium were also escorted from the stadium.
Nigeria has not beaten Ghana since 2006 and has also beaten Ghana 12 times in 58 games while Ghana has beaten the Super Eagles of Nigeria 25 times.
