Nurse hangs himself over unpaid allowances

A young rotational nurse has been found dead by hanging in an uncompleted building at Asankragua in the Asante Akim South Municipality of the Ashanti Region. The deceased, Paul Dodzi, was a national service provider posted to the Church of God Hospital at Esieninpong in the Ejisu Municipality.

According to reports, Dodzi’s colleagues at the hospital began to worry about his absence from work on Thursday, May 11, 2023. Later, they received news that he had allegedly hanged himself. Sources close to the deceased indicate that he had been complaining of unpaid service allowances for several months, which had compounded his economic troubles and made it difficult to fulfill his responsibilities.

Rotational nurses in Ghana are allegedly owed up to ten months of unpaid allowances by the government according to reports.
