John Dramani Mahama’s campaign manager for election 2020, Ohene Agyekum has said the NPP’s Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi “Chairman Wontumi” Boasiako can never stop the former president from campaigning in Asanteman.
Before Mahama rounded up his tour of the Ashanti Region for the second time in less than two months, some thugs believed to be working for the Ashanti Regional Chairman wanted to prevent Mahama from campaigning.
The incident happed at Manhyia on Wednesday, November 28, however, the thugs were chased from the program by the security.
“On my way here, some men who claimed to be from the NPP had gathered and were planning to disrupt our meeting with the delegates. I didn’t even know that this is Wontumi’s Constituency. He said he will not allow John Mahama to campaign here, but we have come and conducted the campaigns. We are ending today and I want to send a message to Wontumi wherever he is that the only person in this region who can say he will not allow John Dramani Mahama to campaign here is Otumfuo”, Ohene Agyekum said while addressing the delegates and supporters of the NDC.
Agyekum also said the people of Asanteman are fed up with the NPP due to the economic hardship under the party they always vote for.
Mahama is hoping to be voted to lead his party in the upcoming election in 2020 after getting only 44.4% of the total votes in the 2016 elections.
His votes in Ashanti Region decreased in 2016 as compared to the votes he got in 2012.
