Opinion: Black excellence – what we gave the world

On several occasions, I have had to read or listen with utter bemusement when my fellow black people argue vigorously that black people have contributed nothing of value to the world, therefore, we should be grateful to the Europeans for saving us from savagery. Because blacks live would have been a misery had the Europeans not come to save us.
But digging into the world of science, technology, medicine, art, and inventions, outside the ones they teach in schools, then you begin to question where did they get their facts and claims from?

The Black Man who gave the world Gas Mask and modern-day three-way signal Traffic Light. He also invented and patented hair straightener and the new sewing machine.

This black woman was part of the original team of engineers tasked with developing the highly useful device.
As a mathematician her calculations eventually led to satellites. The next time you use your google maps or your car navigation system remember to give thanks to the black woman.

The first Man in the world who manufactured base guitar with 7 strings. The only man on earth capable of producing metal from seashells and palm nuts to make metals renewable.
Only individual on earth who practically cut across the length and breadth of invention and innovative science. The most mysterious man on earth. It’s practically impossible to comprehend his level of wisdom.

I have other inventions you probably didn’t know was invented by someone who looks like you. The unfortunate aspect is that their African names were changed to European names during the colonial regime for them to lose their identity forever.

This is what happens when your education, media, history, and statistics are being controlled by others and mostly your oppressors, you may never learn or know anything good or great about yourself.
Millions of inventors have died with their dreams in Africa. It’s my desire to see or be part of the crop of leaders that will invest and harness the immense potential in the great men and women of Africa.
We were once great, and Africa shall be great again.
