The Economic and Organised Crimes Office (EOCO) has been sued by the former COCOBOD Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Stephen Opuni demanding the unfreezing of his bank accounts.
Early this year, the former CEO for COCOBOD had his accounts frozen and was also sued by the government for causing financial loss to the state.
The state believes Dr. Opuni caused GHC 217 million loss within three years through dubious contracts to supply fertilizers from Germany.
The fertilizers which were not up to the required standard also turned out to have been prepared and bagged in Ghana.
Dr. Opuni has denied the allegations as well as the 26 charges including money laundering and bribery levelled against him.
Two weeks ago an Accra High Court ordered EOCO to give him access to his accounts but because they have not done anything about it, he has sued EOCO for the continuous freezing of his bank accounts.
He believes the conduct of EOCO is inhuman and wrongful.
Dr. Opuni is saying the continuous freezing of his accounts has made life difficult for him and his family as he cannot access funds from his accounts to meet their basic daily needs.
The former COCOBOD CEO wants the latest freezing order withdrawn.
