Before his appointment as the interim manager of the Black Stars, the majority of Ghanaians were against his appointment. There were reports that the government wanted Chris Hughton to lead the team to play the two-legged games against Nigeria in the World Cup play-off.
The Ghana Football Association after appointing him as the coach for the two games said they gave him the job because he was the assistant coach to Milovan Rajevac during the World Cup qualifiers, therefore, he knows the team well. Those who wanted Hughton to be named the coach also argued that he has the experience as he has been the Assistant Coach of the Irish national team and as the coach of Tottenham, Newcastle, Brighton and Hove Albion and other clubs in England.
However, after eliminating Nigeria to qualify for the World Cup, Ghanaians have come to love Otto Addo. He has become the first Ghanaian to qualify Ghana to the World Cup as a player and a coach.
There were reports that Chris Hughton who was appointed as the Technical Advisor for the games against Nigeria would become the coach of the Black Stars after the games but now it seems he would be maintained in that position.
Reports in the media indicate that Otto Addo who also works as a trainer at Dortmund has been given the greenlight by the club to extend his contract with Ghana and lead the team at the World Cup.
Although the Ghana Football Association has revealed they would soon name a coach for the Black Stars, they did not give a hint about who they would choose.
