The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has disclosed that over 20, 000 students have benefited from his education fund since its establishment.
Otumfuo during his visit to Suriname said at a public lecture themed, ‘The Role of a Traditional King in a Contemporary Modern State’ that his decision to start the education fund was to ‘educate’ the youth to help bring development to the country.
Beneficiaries of the education fund are scattered all over the country, he revealed.
He said: “I, therefore, set up the Otumfuo Education Fund when I ascended the Golden Stool to help to properly educate our youth, the future leaders. So far, statistics show that over 20,000 students from the various tribes and from all levels of education to the university level have benefitted”.
Apart from the education fund, the Asantehene also said that with the help of the World Bank, he has been able to embark on developmental projects like potable water, health, education and other things in the rural areas.
The Otumfuo Osei Tutu Charity Fund, he disclosed, was also set up to health, sanitation and water problems in the society.
