Black Stars captain, Andre ‘Dede’ Ayew’s call-up to the national team’s African Cup of Nations (AFCON) game against the Central African Republic has got Ghanaians talking.
Dede has been without a team since his contract with the English club Nottingham Forest ended in the summer so his inclusion in the national team made Ghanaians question why he was call-up for the upcoming game.
The Post understands that Dede was given the call-up due to Thomas Partey and Daniel Amartey’s absence from the team.
The two deputy captains of the national team absence due to injury means that the team would be without a leader. According to reports, the technical team wanted to rely on Dede’s brother Jordan Ayew, however, they feel he is not the kind of player who can be a leader on the field.
For that reason, since the game against the Central African Republic is crucial as a win will give Ghana a qualification to the AFCON in Ivory Coast, the technical team invited Dede to the Black Stars camp to provide the leadership role that the players needs in the game.
