A young pastor [name withheld] has been fined for destroying a shrine at Kyikyiwere in the Ashanti Region.
The young man of God destroyed part of the shrine while he was preaching in the town. However, after he appeared before the chief and the traditional authorities, he begged them to forgive him saying he does not know what came over him.
The young man who was expected to be enstooled as the “Nkosuohene” (Chief for Development) due to his desire to see the town development was told to bring 5 sheep, 4 black or red fowls, 4 schnapps, 2 crates of eggs and a sum of ₵50, 000 to appease the gods.
He was also ordered to remove a signboard he erected after he destroyed the shrine. The signboard had on it “God has saved Kyikyiwere from captivities.”
According to the traditional rulers of the town, the shrine which is situated in front of the chief’s palace was built a long time ago. According to them, in the olden days, some wild animals were attacking the livestock of the residents and as a result, the shrine was built to protect the animals. After the shrine was built, the animals never came back again.
