A self-proclaimed man of God, identified as Pastor Isaac Okyeam, has been apprehended by the Akyem Oda Divisional Police Command in the Eastern Region for allegedly using anointing oil to set a married woman ablaze, leading to her untimely death. The deceased, Mrs. Ama Nkansah Appiah, was 42 years old.
According to reports, Mrs. Ama Nkansah Appiah visited Pastor Isaac Okyeam, her spiritual father, at his residence in Akyem Asawase, a suburb of Akyem Awisa, Birim-South district in the Eastern Region, on April 25, 2023, for spiritual guidance. Later that same day, she returned home with severe burns, and all attempts to ascertain the cause of her injuries proved futile. She was rushed to the Oda government hospital and later transferred to the Korle-bu teaching hospital in Accra, where she passed away on May 02, 2023.

Speaking to reporters, Adwoa Gloria, the junior sister of the deceased, recounted that after her sister’s death, they discovered that her dress smelled of anointing oil, which led to suspicion of the pastor’s involvement. Despite his denial, the family proceeded to confront the pastor at his home, where they found Mrs. Ama Nkansah Appiah’s footprints, a bucket containing a mixture of oils of various types, candles, and a partially burnt mattress.
The family’s findings prompted them to report the matter to the police, who subsequently arrested Pastor Isaac Okyeam to assist with investigations. The accused pastor is currently in police custody, and the police have assured the public that they will conduct a thorough investigation into the matter.
