Persons with disability at Bosomtwe in the Ashanti Region are fighting with their DCE, Hon. Joseph Asuming for refusing to give them their common fund.
According to them, they always write an ‘application letter’ to the assembly and indicate what they are going to use the money for.
The assembly on the other hand sets up a committee, go through the letters and give the money to those who deserve it.
But to their surprise, they have been told by the DCE that a new directive from Accra has changed how they are to get the money.
Instead of indicating what they are going to use the money for in their letters, the new directive wants them to choose among popcorn machine, sewing machine or deep freezer.
This according to the new directive will help them use the machines to work and earn additional income.
But the disabled persons believe the DCE is lying as they are aware those in other places have been given their common fund.
They are calling on the central government to intervene as they are of the view that the DCE is finding ways and means to keep their money.
