On May 6, 2023, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and First Lady Rebecca Akufo-Addo were seen in the company of Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and his wife, Lady Julia, at the coronation of King Charles III at Westminster Abbey in London.
The Asantehene and his wife were dressed in bespoke Kente while the President wore a dapper suit and the First Lady wore a colorful Kente outfit.
The coronation of King Charles III marked a historic moment for the British monarchy as he became the oldest-ever monarch to ascend to the throne at the age of 74. The event was attended by several dignitaries and heads of state from around the world, including Ghana’s President and the Asantehene.
The relationship between Ghana and the United Kingdom dates back to colonial times, and the two countries continue to maintain close ties through trade, education, and cultural exchange. Ghana is a member of the Commonwealth of Nations, an organization of 54 countries that are primarily former British colonies, and the President’s attendance at the coronation demonstrates the strong diplomatic relations between the two nations.
