A barber with a physical disability has been placed in police custody on allegations of defiling a 14-year-old girl. The incident reportedly took place on Monday, August 7, in Nayilifond, a suburb of Yendi in the Northern region. The suspect, identified as 45-year-old Razack, is facing charges under section 101 (2) of the Criminal Offences Act 1960 (Act 29). The prosecution, led by Inspector Nicodemus Yorke, requested that the suspect be remanded into custody, explaining that an ongoing investigation required more time to carefully assess the evidence and details of the case. The presiding judge, Anthony Aduku-Aidoo, granted the request, remanding Razack until his next court appearance scheduled for August 15.
Razack’s alleged involvement has shocked the local community, especially considering his role as a respected Muasin, responsible for calling prayers.
In a separate incident, a 21-year-old man who served as both a taxi driver and a fetish priest was found brutally murdered in Saltpond, located in the Central Region. The victim, known as Michael, was discovered near a trash dump in the vicinity of Saltpond Anglican Basic School in the Mfantsiman Municipality. Eyewitnesses suspect that his death may have been related to his alleged involvement in theft, which had caused him to be targeted by individuals in the area. He was also known to practice magic and had previously faced accusations of stealing, including a mobile phone. The community members reportedly had negative opinions of Michael, and he had gained enemies due to his actions.
One eyewitness shared, “We woke up in the morning to see his lifeless body close to the refuse dump. His head had been slashed with a sharp object, and other parts of his body were badly damaged. For now, we can’t tell if he really went to steal or not but he hasn’t got a good name in the community.”
Michael’s body was discovered on the early hours of August 1, 2023, and his death has raised concerns and questions within the community, given the circumstances surrounding his murder.
