Most Kotoko fans do not like listening to Light FM sports as they most of the time criticize the club’s decisions. Before the season started, Light FM’s sports journalists, PKay and Super Obondede criticized the club’s signings. In one of their analysis, they said the management of the club has planned to sack Maxwell Konadu so it would be better for him to resign before they sack him.
Today, Kotoko announced that Maxwell Konadu has been sacked after just one year at the club.
While Kotoko fans insulted Light FM’s sports presenters for saying there is a plan to sack Maxwell Konadu, I am 100% sure the fans would wish they would take back their insult.
Richmond “PKay” Opoku Afriyie and Kwadwo Abu “Super Obondede” Bonsra said it would be difficult for Konadu to succeed because the management has decided not to sign the players he wanted.
Instead, they signed players who were not up to the task for Konadu. They promised a marquee signing but that player did not come. Konadu wanted a striker but the management failed to get him a top-notch striker. Also, his playmaker, Maxwell Baakoh left the club after negotiations with the club failed. There were reports Konadu at a point in time begged Baako to accept the club’s offer and renew his contract as he needs him at the club.
P’Kay and Super criticized the signing of Evans Adomako and Fabio Gama especially. Gama is yet to play a game while the fans have been shocked by Adomako’s abysmal performance so far.
Kotoko has won only one game, lost one and drew two in four league games. In the two games they drew, they scored the first goal before the opponent equalized. Also, the fans were not happy with the style of play of the team.
But should Maxwell Konadu be blamed for the bad performance this season?
Before the season started, Konadu in an interview with Kotoko Express App said because the team did not get enough matches to play in the preseason, they would have to play some matches in the league before the team would jell.
Konadu rejoined Kotoko after the fans urged the then Executive Chairman, now Board Chairman, Dr Kwame Kyei to bring him back following the sacking of Kjetil Zachariassen.
Konadu did not have enough time to trained with the team as he signed for the club a few weeks to the start of the season that was truncated thus 2019/2020. After the league was truncated, over 16 players were offloaded and the club brought in new players who are also yet to find their form.
In my opinion, Konadu should have been given time like how Liverpool gave Jurgen Kloop time to make Liverpool strong again.
I know some Kotoko fans would not agree with me but I believe some times we have to listen to what Light FM presenters say before we say anything.
