The Ejisu District Police Command in Ghana has issued a ten-day ultimatum to Corporal Ernestina Oteng Agyeman, a female police officer stationed at Kwaso Police Station, to locate and produce prisoner Kofi Toku. The incident occurred on July 20, 2023, when Toku managed to escape while under the custody of Corporal Agyeman.
According to the official account provided by the command and reported by MyNewsGh.com, Kofi Toku had recently received a three-year jail sentence from the Donyina Circuit Court. In a peculiar turn of events, Inspector Isaac Nyambi, a fellow officer at the station, entrusted the care of the prisoner to Corporal Agyeman while he went to handle a bail form for a separate case.
Upon Inspector Nyambi’s return, it was discovered that Kofi Toku had disappeared, raising concerns about his escape while in the custody of Corporal Agyeman. The matter was brought to the attention of Chief Inspector Kplorla Aflakpui, the Station Officer at Kwaso Police Station, but he only reported the incident to the District Police Command on July 21, prompting queries about the delay in reporting.
As the search for the escaped prisoner continues, the Ghana Police Service is investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident and holding Corporal Ernestina Oteng Agyeman accountable for the prisoner’s escape.
